Hello, hello! For this week's Top 5 Wednesday, we got to choose any topic we wanted to discuss. Today I chose to gush about the 5 series that I read that started out okay, but just kept getting better and better, as well as the ones that started out great, then went downhill from there. Book one was good, but not mind blowing or anything. However, books 2, 3 and 4 were AMAZING and some of the best books I've ever read. The characters are too good and the plot is wonderfully fast-paced and twisty. I love this series. This is an 11 book series that starts out pretty meh, but it's funny enough and quick enough to keep you hooked. Before you know it, the characters have grown on you and you're 11 books in and still wanting more. This series took my soul and crushed it up into a fine dust. However, not until the third book. The first two books were pretty great, but book three is truly something incredible. Definitely give this series a chance if you haven't before. I'm not as in love with this series as most people seem to be. Book one was a three star read for me. However, with the introduction of Nikolai (aka my soul mate), the series got immensely better as it went on. Book 2 was probably my favorite. This is definitely a story that got better and better. As the books got bigger, so did the world building and the depth of the plot and the time you got to spend with all these amazing characters. It's pretty rare for a big series like this not to have a few duds along the way. It's such an incredible feat for Ms. Rowling to pull off 7 truly astonishing books in a row. I'm a real idiot for waiting until I was 20 to read these. Books 1, 2 and 3 were all pretty good, though, admittedly, I still like the first the best. It's books 4 and 5 that ruined the party. I was fully invested in the story of America and Maxon. When books 4 and 5 turned out to be about their bratty daughter, I lost interest majorly. Nobody asked for basically a two book epilogue. Maybe I'm just bitter because I shipped Chaol and Celaena harder than anything, but after books 1 and 2, the series started to feel like it was written by a totally different author. The story became decidedly different and I didn't like it as much. When I was younger, I actually used to think that the series got better instead of worse. Breaking Dawn used to be my favorite book. Now, after my reread last year, it's my least favorite in the series. Go figure. I actually couldn't even make it through the whole series. I loved book one oh so much! It was a 5/5 for me. Book two was so boring I only got half way and lost all desire to read on. Let me know if I'm missing out on anything by skipping the rest. I truly loved the first book. It was beautifully written and so dramatic. However, by the end of book two, I was so fed up with the main character Kathy's bullshit, I was done. I couldn't read any more. Maybe one day I will finish, though, because I am super curious what happens next.
